ID:23010 Peak virtual memory: <number> megabytes

CAUSE: This message indicates the peak amount of virtual memory (in megabytes) reserved by this process. This number represents the maximum theoretical peak working set needed by this process. In most cases, the practical peak working set is smaller than the peak amount of virtual memory. Dynamic libraries of 64-bit processes on Linux have very stringent alignment requirements, which causes most such libraries to have 1 or 2 MB of padding in virtual address space. This padding never occupies any RAM or swap space resources but does increase the virtual memory size. Therefore, the total size of this padding is removed from the peak virtual memory number reported in this message. Exclusion of the padding explains the difference between the peak virtual memory reported by this message and an external program, such as top.
